NIGERIA BECOMES THE 1ST COUNTRY TO BAN THE USE OF WHITE MODELS IN ADVERTISING CAMPAIGNS

Nigeria became the first country to ban the use of foreign models and voice-over artists in advertising campaigns directed at its own audience.

The decision was implemented by the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria and came into effect on October 1, 2022. The rule focuses on nationality, not race. In other words, advertisements targeting the Nigerian market must use professionals who hold Nigerian nationality.

The goal is clear
Strengthen the local creative industry
Create opportunities for national talent
Promote the country’s identity and culture

We are talking about a nation with more than 200 million people. Faces, voices, stories, and beauty of its own.

The message is simple and powerful
“We have 200 million beautiful people here. Let’s use our own.”
